Recess: Peaceful Morning Kayaking at Mud Lake

Join us on Saturday, June 14 for a peaceful morning paddle at Mud Lake guided by Dubuque County Conservation.

Event will run from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Please arrive between 8:45 and 9:00 AM to check in and get your gear.

Our guide will take us on an hour and a half or so paddle on the easy current of the Mississippi Backwaters. All are welcome regardless of experience! This is FREE to attend, BUT Registration is required. We will be taking 18 paddlers who need a kayak and 5 who can bring their own. This is the ratio we will keep for safety purposes and in comparison to the size of the usable waterway.

What to bring? Please bring with you a water bottle, shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet, sunscreen and a good attitude. Life vests will be provided by the county if you are borrowing one of their kayaks. If you are registering to bring your own kayak, please bring your own PFD.

Can I participate if I have no experience? Absolutely! Kayaking as a newbie can be intimidating but you will not be the only one. We will have a few experienced paddlers plus 2 to 3 county conservation employees to guide you. Just come with a teachable spirit!
